The New .CA Registry System - Information and Improvements
- The migration to the new system is scheduled for October 12, 2010
- Please keep in mind that on the migration day, .CA domain related operations will NOT be possible.
- The introduction of an auto-renew grace period (AGP) of 44 days
- Change of registrant can be easily and efficiently processed through a regular update and is free-of-charge (a TRADE is no longer required)
- Transfers will be processed in real-time and require a valid Authorization Code
- Restores will be possible within 30 days after the deletion of the domain
- Change of the administrative contact details will be possible without any confusing or misleading confirmation emails
- Use of multiple contacts for the same registrant and administrative contact will be possible
- Less interaction with the registry will be required in order to manage your .CA domain names
Limitations Prior to October 12, 2010 - Migration Date
Until the migration date of October 12, 2010, some .CA operations will be limited or restricted. Please take note.
- New domain registrations are still possible until the migration date
- Domain Transfers are NOT possible until the migration date
- Change of Registrant is NOT possible until the migration date
- Change of Administrative Contact details is NOT possible until the migration date
Remaining Limitations After Migration - IMPORTANT
Even after the migration and upgrade to the new .CA registry system many limitations still remain. Please note these limitations as they may affect your customers:
- When creating a new contact, the Registrant Agreement will still need to get approved within 7 days. A unbranded white-labeled email will be sent to the registrant with a link asking for approval of the Registrant Agreement. Emails will be sent from the following email-address: [email protected]
- Canadian presence requirements are still in effect and registrants still need to stated one of the following legal types:
- CCO Corporation (Canada or Canadian province or territory)
- CCT Canadian citizen
- RES Permanent Resident of Canada
- GOV Government or government entity in Canada
- EDU Canadian Educational Institution
- ASS Canadian Unincorporated Association
- HOP Canadian Hospital
- PRT Partnership Registered in Canada
- TDM Trade-mark registered in Canada (by a non-Canadian owner)
- TRD Canadian Trade Union
- PLT Canadian Political Party
- LAM Canadian Library, Archive or Museum
- TRS Trust established in Canada
- ABO Aboriginal Peoples (individuals or groups) indigenous to Canada
- INB Indian Band recognized by the Indian Act of Canada
- LGR Legal Representative of a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- OMK Official mark registered in Canada
- MAJ Her Majesty the Queen
- The Registrant name format requirements stay in place
- Domain deletions will only become effective at the end of the term of the respective domain
- The Registry (CIRA) will send an email to the registrant and the administrative contact, if the name or the email address of the registrant or the administrative contact was updated in any manner (this email from the registry is simply a notification, no confirmation required)
- The Registry (CIRA) will send an email to the registrant and the administrative contact of a domain, if the domain was transferred
- You will not be permitted to transfer a domain within 60 days after the creation, owner (registrant) update or successful transfer. This is a common security measure that is also in place for many other TLDs
- You will not be permitted to update the registrant within 60 days after the creation of a domain, after a successful transfer of a domain or after a successful change of registrant
